The Initial Refinery Operation is the first phase of refining crude oil into usable products. This process begins with the receipt of crude oil at the refinery site. The crude oil is then unloaded from tankers or pipelines and stored in tanks for later processing. Next, the crude oil is heated to a high temperature to increase its flowability and facilitate further processing. This step involves the use of heat exchangers and pumps to mix and blend different types of crude oil, if necessary. The heated crude oil then enters the first series of refining units, known as the atmospheric distillation unit. Here, the crude oil is separated into various fractions based on their boiling points, producing a range of petroleum products including gasoline, diesel fuel, and jet fuel.
